3 Must Have Plumbing Gadgets!
There are a myriad of plumbing gadgets on the market today, some are game changers, some are slightly more subtle……others are a complete waste of money.
As with many things in life, companies invent many different products, gizmos and thingamajigs to help us part with our hard earned spondoolies.
Many of these types of products claim to help us in our everyday lives, from a voice recognition toasty makers to a self loading sock drawer – ok now I’m just being silly but you get the idea.
Plumbing gadgets are no different, some are practical, innovative and cost effective, whilst other are not so much…
We’ve put together a list of 3 must have plumbing gadgets for your home.
Heating Filter
In at #3 is the Adey MagnaClean central heating filter.
There are many manufacturers and design options when it comes to central heating filters however we like to choose the best for our customers.
If you’re not already familiar with the benefits of a central heating filter, their primary role is to protect the boiler and clean the water within your heating system.
This is achieved by cyclonic and magnetic filtration, sifting out any unwanted rust and debris from within your radiators and pipework.
I suppose you could think of it like a hoover for your heating, but unlike the Dyson that cost a small fortune, you don’t have to lift a finger.
A filter such as the MagnaClean retails at around £90 with installation taking just 1-2 hours.
Sure Stop
Right now you’re probably thinking one of two things….
#1 Why is a Sure stop even on this list?
#2 What the hell is a Sure Stop?
Let’s start with the latter shall we.
A Sure Stop is a instantaneous cold main isolation valve with remote push button actuator.
It would be installed on your incoming cold main pipework, just after your existing stop tap.
Now let’s tackle question #1.
I know it’s not something you’re going to show off to your friends when they come over for a glass of Chateau Nerve De Pape but hear me out.
When the day comes and you’ve taken it upon yourself to do a bit of plumbing DIY, because how hard can it be…….Things have taken a turn for the worse and you’re now wedged under the bathroom sink with your thumb firmly clamped over the end of a pipe, getting royally soaked to the bone because that thingamajig just flew across the room.
The £45 you spent on a sure stop when you had the new kitchen installed, now feels like the best single investment of your life.
That unassuming little bit of plastic which has been minding its own business since it was installed, springs into action and saves you from the jaws of certain death (slight over exaggeration).
Let’s get serious again now.
The Sure Stop does exactly that, it stops the flow of water instantaneously at the push of a button.
No more, emptying cupboards, removing plinths, contorting yourself into unnatural shapes to reach the stop tap.
Smart thermostat
Taking the coveted #1 spot is the Nest smart thermostat.
This really is a gadget you can show off to your friends over a cheeky glass of red.
The Nest is such a cool gadget, you can even show it off when you’re at their house…. or at the pub…. or on the school run….pretty much anywhere.
There is one key feature that makes “smart” thermostats better than conventional thermostats and that’s geofencing.
Geofencing is personnel tracking using your phone’s location. This allows the Nest to monitor when you are home and also when you’re not.
Having your home’s heating system monitor your location may sound scary at first but when you take a second to think, your phone monitors where you are 24-7 anyway, so why not let it save you money.
I could waffle on about these things all day because I think they are seriously cool bits of kit, but it might be easier if you just watch the video.
