How long does it take to install a boiler?
How long does it take to install a boiler? That is one of the most common questions we’re asked by customers. We thought we’d write a short blog to help answer this recurring question and give you a greater understanding of the processes involved in the various systems available today.
“How long does it take to install a boiler?”, well in most cases the boiler itself will be installed in a single day. However the system as a whole may take considerably longer, and the property may be without heating and hot water facilities until the system is completed. Heating systems include the boiler unit itself, pipework, radiators, pumps, valves, storage vessels, controls and electrical connections.
How long does it take to install a boiler?
Let’s tackle the three most common installs, starting with the most common:
System Swap
This is where the property currently has a heat only or regular boiler which provides heating directly to your radiators and hot water via a hot water storage cylinder (commonly located in your airing cupboard) and cold water storage tanks in your loft.
A system swap would be the removal of the existing boiler, hot water storage cylinder and cold water storage tanks. Replacing those components with a single combi boiler.
This particular install would normally take 2 days, therefore leaving the property without heating and hot water for 1 evening as a worst case scenario. Wherever possible Love Your Boiler strive to reinstate both heating and hot water at the end of the 1st working day, however this is not always possible.
Combi Swap
A combi swap is when the property has an existing combi boiler but we are upgrading the unit due to the existing boiler being old and/or faulty.
This particular installation is normally completed within a single day, which means both heating and hot water is reinstated before the end of the day.
This is by far the least disruptive installation in our list.
System Install
A system install is usually reserved for larger properties or families with above average hot water requirements.
Upgrading to a fully sealed system includes the installation of a system boiler and an unvented hot water storage cylinder.
This particular installation would take an average of 2 -3 days. In most instances, the property would be without heating and hot water for a minimum of one night.
Conclusion:
How long does it take to install a boiler?
It will take between 1 and 3 days.
How long will we be without heating and hot water?
Heating and hot water may be unachievable for upto 2 days
When is the best time to have a boiler installed?
The answer to this question is easy…….Summer!. Due to the warmer weather outside during summer months, it’s far less inconvenient and disruptive to you and your family to be without heating overnight.
If you’re considering having a boiler installed, we would strongly recommend you be proactive in this situation. Having a system designed and installed at your leisure during the summer months is preferable to having the quickest system to install, and the only company available, when your boiler breaks down in the dead of winter.
